CBD OIL NOW USED AS AN ANTI PSYCHOSIS TREATMENT

Posted in

There are several shared factors between psychology and the world of vapes. Both are relatively new in their area of expertise and both are constantly innovating and improving. With our understanding of psychology and mental illnesses constantly evolving, it’s not surprising that new methods of quelling the damaging effects are constantly being developed. One of the most exciting innovations is in the use of CBD oil in the treatment of psychosis. So what does this mean for the future of the vape industry and what exactly is the science behind the use of cannabidiol?

WHAT IS CANNABIDIOL?

Nwo turning into a worldwide market, cannabidiol is a compound found within the cannabis plant. Alongside THC, the chemical which gets you stoned in marijuana, cannabidiol is one of the most abundant chemicals in the plant. Unlike THC, cannabidiol doesn’t have the same psychoactive effects but does have some therapeutic qualities. The chemical can be turned into many forms, including hemp oil, tablets and balms, the pain relieving effects already being used for strains and back pain medicines. This is why in the USA medicinal marijuana is available with a doctor’s note. Many strains are cultivated for their THC affects but CBD is becoming a more sought after variant in the cannabis plants makeup.

WHAT CANNABIDIOL DOES

Cannabidiol is used as a pain reliever and has none of the anxiety effects of THC. It also has a large amount of other benefits, including decreasing short term memory impairment as well as suppressing the CB1 receptors. All of this means that there are a range of therapeutic effects which come alongside the use of the oil, often available in whole food shops and pharmacies. What’s more, and most importantly for the vaping community is that in its oil form, you can vaporise and inhale cannabidiol, gaining none of the adverse effects of THC but all of the effects of CBD.

CBD IN PSYCHOTHERAPY

Whilst research is still fairly young, it has been proven that CBD can be helpful in treating mental illness, psychosis more specifically. Psychosis itself is a symptom, rather than a cause. This means that cannabidiol is being used as a response to a reaction, not tackling the underlying cause of the psychotic episode but instead relieving the symptoms. Psychosis is often a symptom of anxiety or schizophrenia related illnesses, and can manifest itself as paranoid delusions and hallucinations. CBD helps in these cases due to its anxiety reducing properties, whilst the CB1 receptor repressing qualities mean there are no euphoric or hallucinatory effects.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE VAPING INDUSTRY?

With many patients reluctant to take anti-psychotic medication due to the side effects which come alongside it, CBD oil could be the next innovation in the pharmaceutical world. With easy administration through vape devices, it’s easy to see how this new research could help pave the way to a more positive outlook for vaping and the alternative and positive uses of the cannabis plant.
